Fiji’s banking landscape is undergoing a remarkable transformation as Bank South Pacific (BSP) unveils the country’s inaugural Smart ATMs. This innovative development aims to improve banking efficiency and service accessibility for all Fijians. The Smart ATMs will feature advanced functionalities, including instant cash deposits for both BSP and non-BSP customers, with transactions credited in real-time. This capability is designed to simplify banking for users, allowing them to deposit cash, print mini statements, reset or change their PINs, transfer funds across accounts, and top up mobile phone balances around the clock.
BSP Country Head Haroon Ali noted that cash deposits constitute the majority of branch transactions in Fiji. The introduction of Smart ATMs is expected to reduce long wait times and enhance customer convenience. Ali highlighted that this initiative is a significant step in BSP’s digital transformation journey, focusing on creating streamlined, faster, and more accessible banking experiences for all Fijians.
Smart ATMs are now active in several locations, including Suva Central, Damodar City, Nausori, Nadi, Lautoka, and Labasa. This rollout is part of BSP’s broader strategy to maintain its leadership in the Fijian banking sector, which currently includes 17 branches, 122 ATMs (with six designated as Smart ATMs), and over 3,000 EFTPoS terminals.
In addition to enhancing everyday banking services, BSP has established key partnerships that further broaden its service offerings. Customers can now conveniently receive Western Union remittances directly into their BSP accounts through a collaboration with Fexco Fiji. This initiative simplifies the remittance process for those working abroad, enabling them to send funds directly to their beneficiaries, which enhances both convenience and security.
The launch of Smart ATMs represents a significant shift in banking services in Fiji, with promising prospects for improved financial access among the population.
