Fijian weightlifter Apakuki Tabuawaiwai is poised to make a notable comeback in the upcoming season after overcoming a difficult period last year. At just 24 years old, Tabuawaiwai took a significant break from weightlifting in early 2025, but he has now focused his efforts on enhancing his performance ahead of the 2026 competition season.
Looking back on his journey, Tabuawaiwai has recognized the challenges he encountered last year while expressing gratitude for the opportunity to continue in the sport. “First of all, I would like to thank the Lord for giving me another year. Looking back to 2025, it was quite good. I had a break at the start of the year before making a comeback for a major tournament in India,” he remarked, highlighting his resilience and determination.
As a seasoned competitor who has already represented Fiji in numerous international events, including the Commonwealth Championships and the Pacific Games, Tabuawaiwai is well aware of what it takes to thrive in his weight class. With an ambitious goal for the year, he plans to compete in at least four international tournaments, demonstrating his commitment to both personal growth and Fiji’s international presence in weightlifting. His drive and enthusiasm are indicative of a bright future and a strong representation of Fiji on the global athletic stage.
