The Ministry of Agriculture is investing $230,000 to facilitate the 2025 National Agriculture Show, scheduled for September 16 to 19 at Koroivolu Park in Nadi. Minister for Agriculture Tomasi Tunabuna announced this funding during a parliamentary session, highlighting its importance in ensuring the event’s seamless execution. The budget will cover essential operational costs, including venue setup, booth construction, and stage arrangements.
Tunabuna noted that the funds will also be allocated for hiring staff and acquiring crucial materials for the event. This includes provisions for the Farmers Award, as well as meals and accommodation for participants. The event’s booths were priced at $500 each, generating $6,000 in revenue. Furthermore, sponsorship efforts have garnered an additional $33,000 in cash and $26,787 in in-kind contributions, which will enhance the Farmers’ Award significantly.
Moreover, divisional allocations are providing another $235,503 to help with the logistics related to accommodations, meals, and display arrangements. These financial contributions underscore the government’s commitment to advancing Fiji’s agricultural sector by creating avenues for local farmers and stakeholders to network and collaborate.
Looking ahead, the 2026 National Agriculture Show is set to take place in Labasa, part of the government’s strategy to decentralize national events and recognize Vanua Levu’s crucial role in Fiji’s agriculture. Tunabuna urged farmers, educators, and community members from Macuata, Bua, and Cakaudrove to participate in large numbers and take advantage of the opportunities that the event presents.
The upcoming show is designed to be a platform for showcasing innovative agricultural practices, sharing knowledge, and fostering collaboration within the sector.
