The Ministry of Agriculture has earmarked $230,000 to support the 2025 National Agriculture Show, which will be hosted at Koroivolu Park in Nadi from September 16 to 19. Minister for Agriculture Tomasi Tunabuna announced in Parliament that the funding is essential for the smooth running of the event, covering key operational aspects including venue setup, booth construction, and stage arrangements.
Tunabuna emphasized that the allocated budget also facilitates the hiring of staff and the procurement of vital items for the event, including provisions for the Farmers Award, meals, and accommodation for participants. Booths for stakeholders were available for $500 each, which generated a total of $6,000 in revenue. Additionally, through various sponsorship requests, the event received $33,000 in cash and $26,787 in in-kind contributions, which significantly enhanced the Farmers’ Award.
Further financial support came from divisional allocations, contributing an additional $235,503 to cover accommodations, meals, and display arrangements for the attendees. These efforts underline the government’s commitment to supporting Fiji’s agricultural sector by fostering opportunities for local farmers and stakeholders to network and collaborate.
Looking ahead, the 2026 National Agriculture Show is scheduled to take place in Labasa, reflecting the government’s efforts to decentralize national events and acknowledge the importance of Vanua Levu’s role in Fiji’s agriculture. Tunabuna encouraged farmers, educators, and the wider community from the regions of Macuata, Bua, and Cakaudrove to participate in significant numbers and explore the opportunities presented by the show.
The event promises to be a platform for showcasing innovative practices, sharing knowledge, and encouraging collaboration within the agricultural sector. Its positive impact is projected to stimulate economic activity, promote agri-tourism, and empower rural communities, ultimately serving as both a celebration of agricultural potential in Vanua Levu and a catalyst for growth and resilience.
This emphasis on local engagement and innovation aligns with Fiji’s broader objectives of enhancing food security, encouraging sustainable practices, and fostering economic development through agriculture. The upcoming show is positioned not just as an exhibition, but as a valuable occasion to inspire and uplift all those involved in the agricultural community.
