The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team is entering the Perth Sevens with renewed optimism, despite a challenging performance in Singapore where they finished sixth in the rankings. Head coach Richard Walker expressed confidence in his squad after conducting an in-depth review of match footage, revealing that the quality of rugby played by the team was more impressive than the scorelines suggested.

Walker noted, “After going back and having a look at games on film, reviewing a few things, I actually thought the girls played some really, really good rugby, which is good to see.” He emphasized that while results can sometimes obscure the broader picture, the review process unveiled promising developments in Fijiana’s attack and overall structure.

He acknowledged that the outcomes of certain matches did not reflect the team’s performance, stating, “Obviously, in a couple of games, the score didn’t go our way, so you could feel differently about how you feel with the team. But going back and having a look, man, we played some really good rugby.”

With valuable lessons learned and a boost in confidence, the team is now focusing on translating their strong performances into victories in Perth. The Fijiana will be looking to build on their positive play as they gear up for another competitive leg of the World Sevens series in Australia.

The Perth 7s is set to commence this Saturday, with fans able to catch all of Fiji’s matches live on FBC TV. The team’s spirit and determination signal a hopeful outlook as they aim for success in the upcoming tournament.
