Vodafone Fijiana representative Manuqalo Komaitai is poised to make her debut for Harlequins Women, while teammate Lagi Tuima is gearing up to celebrate her 100th appearance as the club takes on Gloucester-Hartpury in Round three of the Premiership Women’s Rugby competition on Monday.
Head Coach Ross Chisholm has implemented three changes to the starting lineup as Quins seek to recover from a disappointing defeat against Saracens in their previous match. Notably, Liana Mikaele-Tu’u will make her first start in the back-row after being substituted in Round two. Kayleigh Powell will also be starting for the first time this season at fly-half, partnering with Lucy Packer at half-back.
The backline will feature Coreen Grant making her club debut on the right wing, contributing to a dynamic trio alongside Beth Wilcock and Ellie Kildunne. Additionally, skipper Jade Konkel will shift to the second row to pair with Fi McIntosh, reinforcing a strong forward presence.
Chisholm emphasized the team’s focus on responding positively to their last performance, highlighting the need to learn from past mistakes. “It’s about how we respond this week. It’s important we learn the lessons from the weekend. Gloucester are a very good side, but we really want to put in a strong showing in front of our home fans,” he said.
As the Harlequins prepare for Monday’s clash at The Stoop, the team aims to secure their second win of the season, providing fans with the excitement and competitive spirit that characterizes Premiership Women’s Rugby. With new talent like Komaitai joining the team, there is a palpable sense of optimism moving forward.
This match not only signifies a milestone for Tuima but also showcases the evolving landscape of women’s rugby, where fresh talent continues to emerge and make a mark in the sport. The anticipation surrounding this game reflects the growing support for women’s rugby in Fiji and beyond, marking a hopeful chapter for both the team and the sport.
