Fijian sprinter Braelynn Yee has recently been selected as a recipient of the 2025 Griffith Asia Business Internship, a prestigious opportunity that recognizes her exceptional academic and athletic achievements. The former student of Saint Joseph’s Secondary School is a proud holder of the Oceania Athletics and Academic Scholarship and is currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Business program at Griffith University in Gold Coast.
Yee’s internship, arranged by Athletics Fiji, will take place over six weeks in Seoul, South Korea, from November 3 to December 12, 2025. During this time, she will continue her studies at Griffith University, earning full-time academic credit upon successful program completion. To ensure her athletic skills remain sharp, Yee will adhere to a structured training plan set by her coach throughout her stay in Seoul.
Her remarkable accomplishments highlight the mission of the Oceania Athletics & Academics Scholarship, which is designed to support young athletes in achieving excellence in both their educational pursuits and athletic endeavors. This dual focus is increasingly important within the realm of sports, as exemplified by other notable athletes such as Heleina Young, who also strives to balance athletic aspirations with academic recognition.
Athletes like Yee and Young represent the new wave of Fijian talent that underscores the need for holistic development strategies in sports, recognizing that academic programs can enhance athletic performance and vice versa. As Fiji continues to cultivate its athletic talent, there is a palpable sense of optimism about the future of sports in the region. The achievements of these young athletes not only enhance national pride but also serve as an inspiration for aspiring sportspeople in Fiji, pointing towards a bright future filled with potential and promise.
