The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua is accustomed to encountering criticism, but co-captain Frank Lomani has expressed that such remarks only serve to bolster their resolve. After a thrilling 25-20 win against the Hurricanes at Churchill Park in Lautoka, Lomani addressed the skepticism surrounding their performance in the 2026 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific competition, particularly after enduring two earlier defeats.
Lomani emphasized that external criticisms do not sway the team’s focus, saying, “We don’t really care about what people say.” He pointed out that many negative comments stem from passionate fans who are deeply invested in the team’s success. “Those are just outside noise; they say stuff because they care about this team and what happens in this team,” he remarked.
In the face of challenging weather conditions due to Tropical Cyclone Urmil, the Drua displayed remarkable tenacity, recovering from a 17-13 deficit at halftime. Lomani reiterated their commitment to representing Fiji with pride, asserting, “It doesn’t change the way we turn up every day. When we turn up, we train, we still represent Fiji.”
With their spirits unshaken by criticism, the Drua is resolute in their game plan. “We just play to our game plan and we execute it; that’s what it looks like when we do exactly what we say we’re going to do,” he confidently shared.
Looking forward, the team will take a break this week before they square off against the ACT Brumbies next Saturday at 3:30 PM. This upcoming match is particularly important as it marks the inaugural Super Rugby Pacific event at 4R Stadium, Govind Park in Ba, which promises to create an exhilarating atmosphere for fans. The Drua’s ability to rise above negativity and maintain their focus encapsulates a positive message for their supporters as they advance in the tournament.
