Every youth group was celebrated as a winner at the “Qiri kava” (drum beating) competition, with the Kalekana settlement team from Lami clinching the top prize of $1,000. The event, organized by ARUKA Fiji, took place at the Raiwaqa basketball court on Saturday, attracting four out of the ten registered teams.

Inoke Drauna, the founder of ARUKA Fiji, emphasized that the competition was designed to empower young people and give them a chance to showcase their talents as the year comes to a close. The event also played a crucial role in raising awareness about vital support services, such as child protection and HIV awareness.

Drauna highlighted the importance of such initiatives in engaging youth who frequently go unrepresented in community events. Providing these platforms not only showcases their talents but also connects them with essential services, promoting a sense of community and support.

The positive atmosphere of the day and the recognition of each team fostered a spirit of camaraderie and collaboration among participants, reflecting the potential of youth to contribute meaningfully to society.
