Fiji Women Reach Semi-Finals as Men Stumble in MSG Prime Ministers Cup

The Fiji Men’s Football team encountered a setback in their second pool match of the MSG Prime Ministers Cup, suffering a 2–0 defeat to Vanuatu. This match unfolded shortly after the Fiji Women’s team achieved a narrow yet hard-fought victory over the Solomon Islands, winning 2–1 earlier in the day.

The Fiji Women’s team, known as the Kulas, kicked off their match with a strong performance, netting two goals in the first half. The opening goal was scored by Adi Litia Bakaniceva, who skillfully maneuvered past defenders after receiving a perfectly timed through ball, finishing the play with finesse. Shortly after, Cema Nasau extended Fiji’s lead with a close-range effort, making it 2–0. Although the Solomon Islands managed to reduce the deficit with one goal, Fiji’s defense held steady, allowing them to secure their second consecutive win in the tournament.

Conversely, the match for the men’s team against Vanuatu was marked by tension, remaining goalless at halftime. As the game progressed, Vanuatu found the back of the net with a decisive strike late in the match and then further solidified their advantage with a penalty kick. Despite several promising chances, Fiji could not score, ultimately resulting in their defeat.

Looking ahead, both Fiji teams are set to advance to the semi-finals, where they will face new challenges. The men’s team will aim to learn from this experience and regroup for their upcoming matches, while the women’s team seeks to continue their successful momentum. The determination demonstrated by both teams thus far instills hope among fans for future performances in the tournament.
