Fiji is witnessing a significant advancement in its banking sector as Bank South Pacific (BSP) introduces the country’s first Smart ATMs. This innovative move is aimed at enhancing the efficiency of banking services for all Fijians. The new Smart ATMs offer a range of capabilities that include instant cash deposits into BSP accounts—both for BSP and non-BSP customers—with funds being credited immediately. This real-time transaction feature is expected to simplify banking for customers, allowing them to deposit cash, print mini statements, reset or change their PINs, transfer funds between accounts, and top up mobile phone balances at any time of the day.
BSP Country Head Haroon Ali pointed out that the majority of branch transactions in Fiji currently involve cash deposits. With the introduction of Smart ATMs, the bank aims to diminish long queues and make banking more convenient. He emphasized that this deployment marks a key phase in BSP’s digital transformation journey, with a focus on creating smarter, faster, and more accessible banking experiences for everyone in the nation.
The Smart ATMs are operational in various locations including Suva Central, Damodar City, Nausori, Nadi, Lautoka, and Labasa. This rollout is part of BSP’s broader strategy to maintain its position as the leading banking network in Fiji, which currently comprises 17 branches, 122 ATMs—six of which are Smart ATMs—and over 3,000 EFTPoS terminals.
In addition to enhancing everyday banking services, BSP has recently forged partnerships that have further expanded its offerings. Customers are now able to receive Western Union remittances directly into their BSP accounts through a collaboration with Fexco Fiji. This initiative streamlines the remittance processes for individuals working overseas, enabling them to send funds directly to their beneficiaries in a way that enhances convenience and security. This cohesive approach underscores BSP’s commitment to promoting financial inclusion and enhancing the overall banking experience in Fiji.
