Fijian weightlifter Apakuki Tabuawaiwai is determined to make a significant impact in the upcoming season after a challenging start last year. The 24-year-old athlete took a break from the sport for several months early in the previous year, but now he is focused on enhancing his performance for the 2026 season.

Reflecting on his journey, Tabuawaiwai acknowledges the hurdles he faced last year, yet he remains committed to giving his best for Fiji. “First of all, I would like to thank the Lord for giving me another year. Looking back to 2025, it was quite good. I had a break at the start of the year before making a comeback for a major tournament in India,” he expressed.

Having previously represented Fiji in several international competitions, including the Commonwealth Championships and the Pacific Games, Tabuawaiwai understands the steps necessary to excel in his weight class. As he sets his sights on the future, he aims to participate in at least four international tournaments this year, showcasing his dedication and passion for the sport. His commitment reflects a hopeful outlook for both his career and Fiji’s representation on the global stage.
