The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi has issued a warning regarding a trough of low pressure over the country, which is expected to bring continued showers and the possibility of heavy downpours to several regions today and throughout Sunday.
In a bulletin released at 5:30 AM today, meteorologists indicated that this weather system, in conjunction with a prevailing southerly to northeast wind flow, is creating unstable conditions, particularly in the eastern and central parts of Fiji.
Residents along the Coral Coast to Navua, the Greater Suva–Nausori–Tailevu corridor, as well as in Ra–Naitasiri and Serua–Namosi, can expect occasional showers and isolated heavy rain. Similarly, the southern provinces of Bua and Cakaudrove, along with the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, and smaller nearby islands, are also predicted to face wet weather.
While most other areas in the Fiji group should experience predominantly fine weather, isolated afternoon or evening showers could still occur. However, authorities have advised that isolated thunderstorms and heavy rain could lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone regions, urging communities to stay vigilant.
The forecast for Sunday anticipates conditions similar to today, with ongoing showers and the risk of heavy downpours in the same affected areas. As the weather conditions develop, residents are encouraged to stay informed and prepared for any potential impacts.
