Burerua Village in Sawakasa, Tailevu, celebrated a significant milestone today as clean and reliable water began flowing into homes, bringing with it relief and joy to the community. For years, residents relied on a nearby river for cooking and daily needs, but the commissioning of the Burerua Water Project has now transformed their lives, offering new dignity and security to families.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officially inaugurated the project during a community gathering filled with excitement. Funded through the Office of the Prime Minister’s Small Grants Scheme, the initiative cost $37,493.50 and provides safe drinking water to households throughout the village.
During his speech, Prime Minister Rabuka congratulated the people of Burerua and acknowledged their vital role in realizing this long-awaited dream. He stressed that this project exemplifies the progress that can be achieved when government agencies and communities collaborate with a shared sense of purpose.
Accompanying the Prime Minister at the ceremony was Seru Soderberg, Chief Executive Officer of the Water Authority of Fiji. Reflecting on her experiences, she recalled the years spent trudging to the river, often in poor weather conditions, to fetch water for her family.
