Fiji Unveils Roofed I-Recycle Station to Boost Waste Sorting

Waste Recyclers Fiji Limited (WRFL) has officially introduced the I-Recycle Station, aimed at strengthening connections between the I-Recycle Hub and the Frames and Bags setup. This new facility is a significant advancement in WRFL’s ongoing efforts to enhance recycling infrastructure in Fiji.

The I-Recycle Station is tailored to address the increasing demand for practical, durable, and cost-efficient recycling solutions. It is part of WRFL’s broader initiative to boost recycling rates and reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills and dumpsites. Managing Director Joseph Inoke highlighted that the station features a roofing system, which shields materials from the elements, making it a notable improvement for outdoor and semi-covered waste collection points.

Inoke emphasized that the design caters to a diverse range of users, including industrial areas, corporate entities, and hospitality locations. It aims to provide a clean and organized environment for effective waste segregation. “The I-Recycle Station represents a new chapter in how we think about recycling infrastructure in Fiji,” Inoke stated, reflecting WRFL’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation in recycling practices.

This launch aligns with WRFL’s goals and previously reported accomplishments. Notably, in 2024, WRFL successfully diverted nearly 5,000 tonnes of recyclables, representing a significant triumph in Fiji’s waste management efforts. These initiatives not only focus on collecting materials but are also designed to promote awareness and responsibility towards recycling among Fiji’s communities.

By combining efforts with various sectors, including governmental bodies and educational institutions, WRFL is fostering a more sustainable future for Fiji. As a finalist for the 2024 Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) Awards, WRFL’s initiatives reflect its long-standing dedication to environmental sustainability and highlight the progress small island nations can achieve in the global context of recycling and waste management.

The introduction of the I-Recycle Station symbolizes hope and a commitment to a cleaner, more sustainable future for Fiji, emphasizing the potential for community-driven efforts to create lasting change in waste management practices.
