Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has reiterated Fiji’s steadfast commitment to empowering its youth, spotlighting various national initiatives at the United Nations to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the UN World Programme of Action for Youth. Addressing the global community, Rabuka underscored several strategic measures Fiji has taken to bolster youth development. These strategies include revising the National Youth Policy and furthering the Pacific Youth Development Framework, focusing on critical areas such as health, education, employment, inclusion, safety, and justice.
Acknowledging the increasing challenges posed by drug addiction among the youth, Rabuka highlighted the passing of the National Anti-doping Bill and the establishment of the National Anti-Doping Organisation known as “Drugs Free Sports Fiji.” These measures aim to combat the rise in drug addiction and promote a healthier future for Fijian youth.
Reflecting on the broader global issues today’s youth face, Rabuka emphasized the importance of Youth Training Centres in equipping those outside mainstream educational systems with necessary skills. He also emphasized the significant roles of sports, leadership exchanges, and digital services in preparing the young generation to navigate complex challenges.
As he concluded his address, Rabuka called upon international leaders to demonstrate the political will and allocate the necessary resources to renew hope and prosperity for younger generations. This commitment aligns with Fiji’s overarching goal to ensure that its youth are not just beneficiaries of policy but active participants in creating a sustainable and inclusive future.
