Fiji is making strides in fostering a culture of innovation, quality, and sustainable business practices, as highlighted by Acting President and Chief Justice Salesi Temo during the recent 2025 Fiji Business Excellence Awards. Temo expressed his honor in celebrating the spirit of enterprise, which emphasizes Fiji’s vision for a future filled with progress, prosperity, and unity.
The event underscored a commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind while the nation pursues economic growth, national security, and sustainable development. It recognized the resilience and dedication of a diverse range of organizations, from small businesses to larger corporations, in their pursuit of excellence.
Temo pointed out that the awards serve not only to acknowledge business achievements but also to showcase a broader commitment to quality, ethical leadership, and continuous improvement. He referenced key strategic frameworks such as the National Development Plan 2024-2029 and Vision 2050, reiterating the government’s goal to cultivate a resilient, people-centered economy driven by innovation and opportunity. The collaboration between the private sector, government, and civil society was emphasized as essential to achieving these aims.
Among the inspiring success stories shared at the awards were the Kamal family’s response to lockdown challenges, transforming them into a thriving agri-business focusing on international exports, and Saunitoga Enterprises from Ovalau, which developed a solar-powered yaqona farm aimed at global markets. Furthermore, youth-led digital initiatives like High Tech Youth demonstrate a seamless integration of creativity, culture, and technology, illustrating Fiji’s vast potential.
Temo recognized Fiji National University’s National Training and Productivity Centre for promoting innovation and workplace excellence, noting recent certifications awarded and accolades received from Fiji Ports Corporation Limited and Fiji Gateway Hotel. The partnership with the Business Excellence Awards is fostering a robust system for learning, growth, and national advancement.
This year’s awards also saw participation from five government agencies, highlighting a strong commitment from the public sector to enhance service standards throughout the nation. The award recipients exemplify leadership in innovation, sustainability, and ethical business practices, setting a high standard for others in the industry.
In his address, Temo urged all Fijians to remain united and resolute, expressing confidence in the nation’s ability to carve out a prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable future. The awards not only celebrated past achievements but also acted as a catalyst for ongoing progress, providing hope for Fiji’s business landscape. Such collaboration and ambition could propel the community toward significant advancements, signaling that a vibrant economic future awaits all citizens of Fiji.
