A major housing initiative is poised to launch in Veikoba, Delaivalelevu in Nasinu, with a project valued at $53.8 million led by the Housing Authority of Fiji. Spanning over 116 acres, this ambitious initiative will feature 600 fully serviced lots aimed at addressing the pressing housing demand in the area.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the project was held this morning, officiated by Minister for Housing, Maciu Nalumisa. In his address, he expressed appreciation to the landowners for their collaboration, emphasizing the project’s significance in tackling Fiji’s ongoing housing crisis.
Housing Authority Chief Executive Isikeli Navuda underscored the project’s substantial impact, noting that it stands out as one of the largest initiatives undertaken by the authority. The landowners involved have shown strong support for the development, appreciating its potential benefits for both their community and future generations. They also recounted the hurdles they faced, including legal disputes over land rights, which have recently been resolved.
This development is part of the Housing Authority’s broader strategy, which has recently approved a $39 million loan to further ongoing projects and introduce new developments nationwide. These efforts are designed to deliver thousands of residential lots, contributing significantly to alleviating the housing shortage and improving living standards for Fijians.
Furthermore, the government is advancing various support programs, including adjustable interest rates on home loans and initiatives tailored to assist first-time homebuyers. This underscores a strong commitment to enhancing access to affordable housing.
Collectively, these endeavors present a promising outlook for housing in Fiji, fostering more stable and secure living conditions while generating socio-economic improvements for the communities involved.
