The Fiji Football Association has announced an extended 38-member national football squad for the upcoming MSG Prime Ministers Cup in Papua New Guinea next month, drawing significant contributions from local clubs. Eight players from Labasa and seven from Ba have been included, highlighting the competitive nature of Fiji’s football scene as emphasized by assistant coach Marika Rodu.
The Labasa contingent features Sitiveni Rakai, Melvin Mani, Rusiate Doidoi, Christopher Wasasala, Ashnil Raju, Lekima Gonerau, Eparama Moroica, and Jitoko Vulava. Meanwhile, Ba FC is represented by Alzaar Alam, Ryan Naresh, Nabil Begg, Penisoni Tirau, Suliano Tawanakoro, Etonia Dogalau, and Vilitati Kautoga. Rewa emerges as the most represented team in the squad, contributing ten players, including notable talents like Ivan Kumar, Gabriele Matanisiga, and Patrick Joseph Kumar.
Additionally, players from other clubs such as Nadi, Suva, Lautoka, Nadroga, and Navua contribute to the squad’s diversity. Nadi presents Ratu Pauliasi Tulivou, Mohammed Ayman, and Joela Biuvanua; Suva fields Amani Valebalavu and Akuila Mateisuva; Lautoka showcases Epeli Leiroti, Mohammed Shazil Ali, Sterling Vasconcellos, and Simione Nabenu; while Nadroga and Navua add Malakai Lavecake, Thomas Dunn, Isake Naduvu, and Filipe Baravilala to the mix.
Rodu highlighted that this selection underscores the wealth of talent within the Extra Premier League, integrating both seasoned players and emerging stars. Fiji’s squad has been drawn into Group B alongside Vanuatu and PNG Red, creating an opportunity for players to shine on an international stage.
