The Fiji Under-18 rugby team recently completed their final training session at Marist Brothers High School in Suva before departing for Australia, where they will face challenging matches against the Australian youth teams. Led by head coach Peniona Ranitu, the team has focused on refining every element of their game as they brace themselves for these upcoming tests.
Ranitu expressed satisfaction with the team’s preparation, having meticulously followed their training plan. Yet, he acknowledged that the real challenge lies ahead as they first compete against the Brumbies Under-18 team, providing a precursor to their main encounter with the Australian national schoolboys’ team.
While in Australia, the squad will rely on their developing team culture, which has fostered compassion and unity among players from different schools. This camaraderie has been a cornerstone of their preparation, emphasizing realistic and respectful team values. Their daily routine includes evening and morning church services, reflecting their holistic approach to team-building and discipline.
Shortly before their departure, the team partook in a church service at Suva Grammar School, attended by families, underscoring the community’s support and the pride that comes from representing Fiji. The squad is scheduled to play against their Australian counterparts at Viking Park in Canberra on September 29 and October 4, marking significant opportunities for these young athletes to showcase their talent on an international level.
The Fiji rugby community and the nation hold high hopes for the team, believing in their potential to excel and bring pride to the country through their performance and sportsmanship. As they embark on this journey, the blend of diverse talents, strong preparation, and a supportive culture is poised to serve them well in Australia.
