Fiji is set to host United States Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau for an official visit from February 27 to March 1, 2026. This significant visit is expected to bolster collaboration between Fiji and the United States, with a focus on deepening their partnership through strategic discussions.
During his stay in Fiji, Deputy Secretary Landau will hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and other senior officials. The discussions will center on enhancing strategic partnerships that are essential for Fiji’s national development and regional solidarity.
A key feature of Landau’s trip will be the signing of a Compact Development Funding Agreement between the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and the Fijian government. This agreement is designed to stimulate growth led by the private sector, while also expanding opportunities for trade, investment, and broader economic development in the region.
Landau’s itinerary includes visits to Hawaii, Tonga, and Samoa, further emphasizing the U.S. dedication to strengthening relationships with Pacific nations. This visit comes on the heels of the Pacific Agenda: Investment, Security, and Shared Prosperity Summit held recently at the East-West Centre in Honolulu.
This engagement represents a crucial opportunity for Fiji to define its role in a changing geopolitical environment while fostering sustainable growth and prosperity through international cooperation. The anticipated outcomes of this visit hold promise for Fiji’s future as it aims to harness support from global partners.
