Fiji FA Launches Three-Day Futsal Coaching Course to Elevate the Game

Fiji to Host 3-Day Futsal Coaching Course to Boost Local Talent

The Fiji Football Association is set to host an anticipated three-day Futsal Coaching Course from the 7th to 9th of next month at the Ba Academy Grounds. This initiative is designed to enhance the technical and tactical skills of coaches at both district and school levels across the country. Expert instruction will be provided by Fiji FA Coach Educator Yogendra Dutt, alongside invaluable contributions from National Futsal Head Coach José Gerardo, who will lead several practical training sessions.

The course will zero in on essential areas such as defensive and attacking strategies, set plays, goalkeeper training, and specialized coaching techniques tailored for school environments. Coach Gerardo shared his excitement about the initiative, emphasizing its importance: “I have a three-year plan to build a winning futsal team for Fiji. Courses like this are vital — when coaches grow, players grow, and the whole system benefits.”

With over 35 years of international coaching experience, Coach Gerardo remarked on the rising standards within Fiji’s futsal community, stating, “The standard of futsal in Fiji is improving. Teams are more organized and technically stronger.” His insights reflect a positive momentum in the sport as it garners more attention and development resources.

The course will conclude with a practical assessment on the final day, and the Fiji FA is encouraging all district and school futsal coaches to attend. This course is a component of a larger initiative to professionalize futsal in Fiji, strengthening the foundation for a robust national program.

Moreover, this coaching course aligns with various educational efforts previously introduced by the Fiji FA, including the OFC Senior Futsal C-Licence course. These types of programs play a crucial role in cultivating a dedicated coaching community and advancing the overall football landscape in Fiji, fostering hope for the future of futsal and football across the region. The ongoing investment in coaching education represents a commitment to long-term improvement and prosperity for the sport.
