Fiji Times Dominates FAME Awards with Top Honors and Groundbreaking Scoop

The Fiji Times achieved significant recognition at this year’s FAME Awards, securing multiple prestigious accolades in both print and digital journalism categories. Anish Chand, the Managing Editor for Digital, was named Journalist of the Year, and he also took home the Print Journalist of the Year award, underscoring his exceptional contributions to the field.

Fred Wesley, the Editor-in-Chief of The Fiji Times, expressed his joy at the awards, highlighting that they reflect the publication’s dedication to serving as “the voice of the people” and emphasizing the critical role of accountability in journalism.

A standout moment of the evening was Chand receiving the Scoop of the Year award for his impactful interview with Military Commander Ro Jone Kalouniwai, featured in the *Lens@177* segment. This exclusive piece not only sparked national discussion but also highlighted the increasing significance of digital journalism in Fiji.

The event also honored other distinguished journalists, such as John Kamea, the Editor of the Sunday Times, who was awarded the Best News Article – Print Feature for his poignant storytelling that brought attention to issues affecting rural Fiji. Kamea dedicated his accolade to those whose lives inspired his narrative, reinforcing the necessity of preserving these stories for future generations.

Additionally, journalist Samantha Rina received the All Media – Best Coverage of a Major News Event or Issue award for her comprehensive 20-page insert on Lupus, published in May 2025. This special feature aimed to illuminate the complexities surrounding this often-misunderstood illness, with Rina dedicating her honor to the Lupus Foundation Fiji and the brave patients who shared their experiences.
