The recent issues were attributed to non-compliance from operators and incomplete approvals rather than regulatory failures. Vasu reiterated the necessity of adhering to established aviation laws, which dictate that only officially approved maintenance organizations are permitted to conduct aircraft maintenance. He noted that using unapproved parts or services could jeopardize an aircraft’s Certificate of Airworthiness. Additionally, prior approval from CAAF is essential before operators can enlist overseas service providers for maintenance.
The complications arose when Suncoast Aero Engines, not recognized by Fiji’s regulations, overhauled three engines that were later installed without necessary CAAF clearance. To prevent similar disruptions moving forward, Vasu highlighted the importance of operators providing comprehensive documentation and safety cases promptly. He assured that CAAF is committed to swift decision-making in order to mitigate future issues.
