Fiji Teacher’s Thyroid Surgery Highlights PSH Hospitals’ Push for Accessible Healthcare

A teacher from Tavua has successfully undergone surgery at PSH Hospitals in Nadi to have a thyroid tumor removed, marking a significant step in her recovery journey. Neha Nivashna Naidu discovered the lump on her throat earlier this year and, prompted by her family’s concerns, sought medical attention. Doctors warned that the tumor could turn cancerous if treatment was delayed, making her swift decision to undergo surgery crucial.

Neha expressed her fears upon receiving her diagnosis, but her grandmother encouraged her to remain strong and seek the necessary care. General surgeon Dr. Ali, who headed her treatment, described her as being under considerable emotional stress upon arrival, emphasizing the tumor’s urgent need for removal to protect her long-term health. He noted that the medical team focused on providing Neha with the support and care essential for her recovery.

Following the surgery, Neha reported feeling a wave of relief and gratitude. She recalled that the hospital environment made her feel safe, and waking up after the procedure felt like receiving a second chance at life. Parvish Kumar, the founder and CEO of PSH Hospitals, shared that Neha’s case illustrates their mission, emphasizing that healthcare should be about more than just treating diseases; it should also be about restoring hope. He pointed out that many Fijians delay seeking treatment due to fear or financial constraints, which is why PSH is dedicated to making life-saving care accessible.

Neha Nivashna Naidu’s successful surgery not only provides her with a brighter future but also serves as an encouraging example for others facing similar health challenges. She reflects on her experience as a lesson in resilience, urging others to remain hopeful even during tough times. The advancements in local healthcare services, such as those at PSH Hospitals, signify a shift towards accessible medical care, fostering a sense of optimism in the community while empowering individuals to prioritize their health.
