The Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee is looking ahead with great enthusiasm as the nation prepares for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Chief Executive Officer Vanessa Kilner expressed her optimism regarding Fiji’s athletic team, which is poised to make a significant impact across a variety of sports.

Kilner emphasized the formidable nature of Fiji’s contingent, particularly spotlighting the weightlifting team, which she believes has the potential to secure notable victories. In addition, she praised the national 3×3 basketball program, noting that both the men’s and women’s teams have earned their spots in Glasgow due to impressive performances in recent competitions held in Palau.

“We’ve got a really, really good team going into Glasgow. Our weightlifters and the great 3×3 basketball teams are among our strong points. Boxing is another source of optimism, as several local boxers have demonstrated significant potential, gaining valuable experience from various international competitions. Judo also looks promising as our representatives continue to perform well in their preparations for the event,” Kilner stated.

Moreover, Fiji will showcase its talents in bowls, a sport where the nation has recently garnered international recognition, including a runner-up finish at a world championship. Swimming is another discipline where Fiji is expected to shine, with several positive developments within the current squad.

Kilner expressed confidence in the capabilities of the athletes, expressing hope that many will return from Glasgow with personal bests and possibly new records. The anticipation and pride surrounding Fiji’s athletes as they prepare to compete on such a prestigious international stage capture the spirit of determination and ambition that defines the nation. With such a strong representation, Fiji aims to bring home not just medals, but a sense of national pride and achievement.
