Fiji Advances Climate Finance Through Public-Private Collaboration

Fiji Targets Climate Finance Boom Through Public-Private Partnerships

Fiji Ports Corporation Limited (FPCL) recently participated in the Climate Finance Knowledge Exchange Workshop, held on October 13 and 14 at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat in Suva. The event brought together leaders from various government ministries and the private sector to explore innovative financing methods for enhancing Fiji’s climate resilience and meeting sustainable development goals.

At the workshop, a strong emphasis was placed on the importance of public-private partnerships to create inclusive, reliable, and impactful climate finance solutions. FPCL communicated that the primary goal of the workshop was to enhance understanding of climate finance while fostering collaboration between government and private entities to formulate viable projects capable of accessing substantial climate funding.

FPCL reaffirmed its dedication to sustainable infrastructure and climate-smart investments, emphasizing that collaborative efforts are essential for driving significant climate action both in Fiji and throughout the Pacific region. The corporation also engaged in a separate workshop concerning Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory Systems for the Waste Sector, further showcasing its commitment to advancing climate transparency in Fiji.

Organized by the Global Green Growth Institute in collaboration with the Department of Climate Change under the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the workshop highlighted the need for improved Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems to harmonize FPCL’s sustainability efforts with Fiji’s overarching goals for low-emission and climate-resilient development.

Fiji is actively taking steps to address the challenges posed by climate change, integrating sustainability into various operations and practices. With the aid of initiatives focused on increasing climate finance, Fiji is on a hopeful path toward a more sustainable future. This collaborative approach illustrates a collective determination to tackle climate-related issues, ensuring that both national and regional objectives are achieved effectively.
