Fiji Sends Two Taekwondo Aces to World Taekwondo Championships in Wuxi

Fiji Taekwondo Duo Heads to 2025 World Championships in Wuxi

Fiji is set to showcase its athletic talent on the global stage as two promising competitors, Lolohea Naitasi and Nipesh Prakash, prepare to represent the nation at the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships in Wuxi, China. Under the guidance of experienced coach Neelu Nand, the participation of these athletes marks a significant moment in Fiji’s resurgence in international sports and highlights the country’s commitment to excellence and solidarity through Taekwondo.

With over three decades in coaching, Neelu Nand emphasizes the importance of character development in athletes. He noted that the training leading up to the championship has been both challenging and fulfilling. “The most rewarding part of coaching is seeing athletes grow in confidence and character. Taekwondo isn’t just about medals; it’s about building strength and spirit that lasts a lifetime,” Nand remarked.

Both Naitasi and Prakash bring distinct backgrounds to their Taekwondo pursuits. Naitasi, from Daku, Nakelo, began training in 2022 and attributes her passion to her family and faith. She shared, “When challenges arise, I go back to God for peace and strength. My parents’ support motivates me to never give up.” On the other hand, Prakash, a Labasa native currently studying for a Master’s in Professional Accounting in New Zealand, expressed his determination, stating, “Every training session is a chance to grow stronger. I’m proud to carry the Fijian flag and represent my country with honour.”

The athletes departed Fiji on October 21 for joint training sessions in Wuxi with teams from New Zealand and the Cook Islands, showcasing a spirit of Pacific unity. Coach Nand acknowledged the importance of community support, expressing gratitude to those who have backed the team and reinforcing the Fiji Taekwondo Association’s dedication to nurturing talent from grassroots to elite levels.

Competing from October 24 to 31, Naitasi and Prakash will aim to demonstrate their skills and further enhance Fiji’s reputation in the international Taekwondo arena. Their journey continues to symbolize progress and unity, rallying Fijians to support their athletes as they step onto the world stage, embodying the hope and resolve characteristic of the Fijian spirit.
