Fiji Stock Market Reaches New Heights: Record Dividends and Profits Boost Investor Confidence

Investor confidence in Fiji’s listed companies is reportedly at an all-time high, according to the South Pacific Stock Exchange (SPX), following several years of record-breaking dividend payouts and profitable performance across the market. SPX CEO Sheraj Obeyesekere announced that this year has seen the highest annual dividend payout from SPX-listed companies, with 18 out of 20 distributing a combined total of approximately $97 million to shareholders. This figure surpasses last year’s record payout of $76 million, indicating two consecutive years of unprecedented returns.

Obeyesekere emphasized that the trend reflects the strength and resilience of Fiji’s corporate sector. “Companies have a choice to pay dividends. In Fiji, companies are coming forward to pay dividends in an extensive manner to create shareholder value. That is a good sign for us; it means companies value their shareholders,” he stated.

In addition to the surge in dividends, the profitability of the market also stands out, with 19 out of 20 listed companies reporting profits this year—a pattern that has persisted for several years. Obeyesekere reassured both current and potential investors, asserting, “In terms of confidence for our investors, I can say you can have confidence in our listed companies because 19 out of 20 were profitable this year, and have been so for a number of years.”

The SPX considers this momentum as a strong indicator of corporate stability, disciplined management, and a long-term commitment to shareholder returns. With consistent profitability and record dividend declarations, Fiji’s stock market is signaling that its listed companies are not only doing well but are also dedicated to rewarding their shareholders actively. This positive outlook for the market fosters a resilient investment climate in Fiji, encouraging further investment opportunities and growth in the region.
