Fiji Stock Market Reaches New Heights: Record Dividends and Profits Boost Investor Confidence

Fiji SPX Listed Firms Deliver Record Dividends, Boosting Investor Confidence

Investor confidence in Fiji’s listed companies has reached unprecedented levels, as reported by the South Pacific Stock Exchange (SPX). Following years marked by record-breaking dividend payouts and strong market performance, SPX CEO Sheraj Obeyesekere revealed that this year has seen the highest annual dividend distributions from companies listed on the exchange. A total of 18 out of 20 companies collectively paid approximately $97 million to shareholders, surpassing last year’s record payout of $76 million. This marks the second consecutive year of remarkable returns for investors.

Obeyesekere highlighted that this trend reflects the robust nature of Fiji’s corporate sector. He noted, “Companies have a choice to pay dividends. In Fiji, companies are coming forward to pay dividends in an extensive manner to create shareholder value. That is a good sign for us; it means companies value their shareholders.”

Moreover, the profitability of the market has been similarly impressive, with 19 out of 20 listed companies reporting profits this year—a trend that has continued over several years. Obeyesekere offered reassurance to both current and prospective investors, stating, “In terms of confidence for our investors, I can say you can have confidence in our listed companies because 19 out of 20 were profitable this year, and have been so for a number of years.”

The SPX views this momentum as a clear indicator of corporate stability, responsible management, and a commitment to long-term shareholder returns. With ongoing profitability and remarkable dividend announcements, Fiji’s stock market demonstrates that its listed companies are not only performing well but are also focused on actively rewarding their shareholders. This optimistic outlook fosters a resilient investment climate in Fiji, paving the way for increased investment opportunities and regional growth.
