Acting Attorney-General Siromi Turaga highlighted the technological innovations witnessed in Singapore, such as e-litigation platforms and AI-assisted tools, which have transformed the delivery of justice by making it faster, more affordable, and accessible. Inspired by these advancements, Fiji aims to incorporate similar digital reforms tailored to its justice system.
Moreover, Turaga expressed admiration for Singapore’s correctional system, which emphasizes rehabilitation through skills training and counseling, a model that he believes aligns with Fiji’s values of compassion and offering second chances. This approach is viewed as effective in breaking the cycle of reoffending and is a strategy Fiji plans to adapt for strengthening its social framework.
Another area of interest Fiji is looking to explore is the implementation of biometric technology for seamless, secure border controls. As Fiji’s tourism sector grows, and as trade expands, adopting advanced digital security measures becomes increasingly essential to ensure national security and boost economic efficiency.
