The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for heavy rainfall impacting the interior and southern regions of Viti Levu, as well as southeastern parts of Vanua Levu. The warning specifically encompasses areas from Sigatoka through the Coral Coast to Navua on Viti Levu, and includes southern Bua and Cakaudrove in Vanua Levu.

Currently, a northerly wind flow is influencing the weather, resulting in unstable atmospheric conditions across the country. According to the meteorological office, these conditions are anticipated to lead to afternoon and evening thunderstorms, which could bring heavy rainfall to the warned areas.

The service has expressed concern that the impending severe thunderstorms may produce intense rainfall, amplifying the risk of flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone regions. Residents in affected areas have been urged to stay indoors when possible, avoid windows, keep children sheltered, and closely monitor weather updates for any developments.

Fiji Met has indicated that the thunderstorm activity and associated heavy rainfall could persist until late afternoon or evening, and cautioned residents to remain alert as conditions are likely to evolve rapidly. As the community prepares for the potential impact of these severe weather events, staying informed and taking precautions will be imperative in mitigating risks associated with flash flooding.
