Alivereti Nainoca is realizing his aspirations by training alongside some of the most celebrated names in Fiji’s rugby sevens history. As a new member of the extended squad for the Fiji Airways Men’s 7s team, Nainoca describes his experience as both surreal and motivational, as he adapts to the fast-paced world of international sevens rugby.
Under the expert guidance of Coach Osea Kolinisau, Nainoca has seamlessly adjusted to the demanding environment, and his integration into the team has pleased the coaching staff. He expressed his joy about being selected, saying, “I’m so happy to have been considered to be part of the extended team. I used to watch these players and now get to train alongside them; it’s such a great feeling to be with the team I used to only watch on television.”
With dreams of making an impact at the international level, Nainoca views this moment as the beginning of a significant journey. He conveyed his aspirations, stating, “My dream is to not only reach here but go and play in other countries as well, God willing.” Transitioning from rugby union (15s) to sevens has presented a learning curve, yet he feels enriched by the insights he has gained during his time with the squad.
The timing of the team’s preparation aligns with their upcoming participation in the Ignite 7s tournament in Tauranga, New Zealand. This tournament is a vital warm-up ahead of the final squad selection for the HSBC 7s Series opener in Dubai. Coach Kolinisau emphasized that this event will provide opportunities for newcomers like Nainoca to display their skills and secure a spot in the final lineup.
As the tournament approaches, it not only brings hope for individual players but also fosters optimism for the entire squad as they pursue success on the global stage. The Fiji Men’s 7s team is combining experienced players with emerging talent, creating a promising outlook for the season ahead and instilling pride in Fijian rugby. Fans can anticipate an exhilarating showcase of rugby prowess as this dynamic group of athletes aims to leave their mark in the upcoming competitions.
