The Fiji Airways Men’s 7s team has booked their place in the semifinals of the 2025/2026 HSBC Sevens World Series following a dramatic 20-14 victory over South Africa at the Perth Sevens, marking their fourth consecutive semifinal appearance. This crucial win not only secured Fiji the top spot in Pool A but also set them up for their semifinal match scheduled for 4:57 PM tomorrow.

Fiji demonstrated impressive resilience throughout the tournament, coming back from behind in all three of their matches in Perth. This success follows a thrilling victory just a week earlier in Singapore, where they triumphed with a golden point.

In the intense match against South Africa, debutant Nacani Boginisoko made a remarkable impression with his dynamic line breaks, while Vuiviawa Naduvalo played a critical role by scoring two tries. South Africa’s Zane Davids initially opened the scoring early in the game. However, Fiji faced a setback when Douglas Daveta missed a chance to capitalize on another Boginisoko break. The situation worsened for Fiji when Daveta was sent off for a deliberate knock-on during a pivotal moment as South Africa scored their second try.

However, the dynamics of the game shifted dramatically when South Africa found themselves reduced to six players after Davids received a yellow card for misconduct, which allowed Boginisoko to score an important try. Despite trailing 5-14 at halftime, Fiji staged a stunning comeback, with Naduvalo scoring shortly after the break. Boginisoko then set up another try for Naduvalo before Iowane Teba extended their lead mere seconds after South Africa received another yellow card.

Earlier in the tournament, Fiji’s performance stood out as they achieved a solid 26-10 opening victory against Argentina and narrowly edged out Spain with a 26-24 win in their second group match.

Fiji’s continued excellence on the field underscores their competitive spirit and agility, positioning them as a formidable force as they advance in the tournament. With fans eagerly anticipating the semifinals, there is hope for yet another exhilarating display from the Fijian team as they aim for victory on this prestigious global stage.
