The Fiji Airways men’s 7s team, under the leadership of captain Jerry Matana, is preparing for the upcoming Singapore and Perth legs of the World Rugby Sevens Series with a strong commitment to improving their performance and maintaining discipline. Matana has emphasized the importance of discipline after their recent showing at the Coral Coast 7s, where he identified it as a critical area needing enhancement.

“We’re now ready for the two legs, Singapore and Perth. We need to work on our discipline; that is something I believe we lacked during the Coral Coast 7s. At the start of our training week, we’re working on our weaknesses,” Matana remarked.

Looking back on their third-place finishes in Dubai and Cape Town, Matana acknowledged that small mistakes have hindered the team’s success in key moments. To counteract these issues, the squad has increased their training intensity, focusing on honing their skills and correcting weaknesses to increase their chances of success in the forthcoming tournaments.

“We made silly mistakes, and poor discipline cost us at crucial times,” he added.

In the upcoming tournaments, Fiji finds itself in Pool A alongside South Africa, Great Britain, and Spain. They will commence their campaign against Great Britain at 4:32 pm on Saturday, followed by matches against Spain at 7:58 pm and South Africa at 11:46 pm.

Additionally, the Fijiana 7s team will also be in action, matched up against the reigning champions from Cape Town, Australia, as well as the USA and Japan in their pool. With competition scheduled over the weekend, both Fiji teams are poised for exciting encounters ahead, and there is great anticipation for their upcoming performances as they strive for success on the international stage. The future looks promising, with the teams eager to showcase their improvements and deliver standout performances.
