Bula vinaka from Singapore!
The first day in a new venue is always a challenging experience for a reporter, and this occasion proved to be no different. I woke up early with the goal of reaching the venue before the gates opened at 8:30 AM. However, navigating to the correct entrance was somewhat complicated, and after a bit of searching, I made it to the media room just in time for the 9 AM briefing.
One unexpected challenge I faced was the accreditation process. To take photographs, I had to register separately as a photographer, as my reporter’s accreditation alone was insufficient for photography. Balancing the demands of photography, interviews, and video coverage certainly has its obstacles, but that’s a part of the profession we embrace.
My primary focus for the day was to cover the opening matches of the Fiji men’s and women’s teams, as those stories were intended for publication today. Once that coverage was completed, I shifted my attention to pushing content online and providing real-time updates to our audience.
Regrettably, the Fijiana team lost their first two matches, shifting attention to the men’s team, which appeared sharp and confident in their opening game. Fans, including myself, are hopeful that they can successfully defend their title at the Singapore 7s.
As the evening unfolds, matches will continue nearly until midnight Fiji time, promising a long night ahead. Despite the extended hours and early start, the experience has been nothing short of amazing. I am eagerly anticipating finals day in this vibrant city.
Until the next update, ni sa moce!
