Fiji Sevens Jump to SVNS Top After Cape Town Bronze, Eyes Singapore Showdown

The Fiji Airways men’s sevens team has made an impressive mark in the HSBC SVNS series, currently sharing the top spot in the standings after securing a bronze medal in Cape Town, South Africa. The team, under the guidance of coach Osea Kolinisau, amassed 32 points after participating in two tournaments, solidifying their position alongside South Africa, who also has 32 points.

In the Cape Town tournament, Fiji showcased their skill and determination by defeating France 26-19 in a thrilling playoff match, earning 16 points for the round. While South Africa celebrated their title defense, collecting the maximum 20 points, Fiji’s performance keeps them competitive in the series. The standings are closely contested, with New Zealand trailing in third place at 28 points, followed by France and Australia, both at 28 and 26 points, respectively. Last season’s champions, Argentina, currently sit in sixth place with 24 points.

On the women’s side, the Fiji Airways Fijiana sevens team concluded their tournament in Cape Town with a strong seventh-place finish. They dominated their final match against Great Britain, winning 47-7, which allowed them to end the tournament on a positive note. In the women’s standings, Australia and New Zealand lead with 38 points, but Australia holds the top spot due to superior points differential. Japan follows in third with 28 points, while the USA and France round out the top five with 26 and 24 points, respectively.

Looking ahead, the next tournament in the HSBC SVNS series will take place in Singapore, scheduled for January 31, 2026.
