Osea Kolinisau, head coach of the Fiji Airways men’s sevens team, has officially announced his squad for the HSBC Dubai 7s, which marks the beginning of the 2024/2025 series. The announcement was made following the successful Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s tournament in Lautoka, where Fiji 7s Blue secured a commendable 29-5 victory over the Taikita Brothers.

The national representation included two teams: Fiji 7s Blue, who emerged as champions, and Fiji 7s White, which unfortunately lost in the semi-finals to the Taiki Ta Brothers with a score of 10-15. Kolinisau’s selection is a reflection of the hard work and dedication displayed by the players during rigorous training sessions. Each athlete showed eagerness and commitment to earn their place on the squad for Dubai.

In recent training sessions at the FRU High Performance Gym in Laucala Bay, Suva, Kolinisau highlighted the challenges he faced in forming a competitive team while balancing experienced players with newcomers. He acknowledged the pressure associated with his role but emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards as they look ahead to the challenges in Dubai.

The team has since departed for Dubai, ready to make their mark on the international stage. The 12-member squad selected for the tournament includes Jerry Matana, Joji Nasova, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Ilikimi Torosi, Suliano Volivolituevei, Terio Tamani, Pilipo Bukayaro, Ratu Filipe Sauturaga, Kavekini Tanivanuakula (debutant), George Bose (debutant), Vuiviwa Naduvalo, and Iowane Teba.

As Fijian rugby fans look forward to the performances in Dubai, there is a sense of hope surrounding the blend of experience and fresh talent within this squad. The anticipation is high that their efforts will translate into a successful campaign in the series, further contributing to Fiji’s rich rugby legacy on the world stage.
