Fiji is set to spotlight its burgeoning business process outsourcing (BPO) sector at the BPO Exchange 2025, taking place in Sydney next week. This participation underscores the nation’s goal to cement its position as the premier outsourcing destination in the Pacific region.
According to Morika Hunter, President of Outsource Fiji, this represents a crucial moment that reflects Fiji’s capabilities, competitiveness, and confidence in the global market. She emphasized the growth of the sector, attributing it to robust collaboration between private enterprises, government entities, and development partners. Investments in critical areas such as infrastructure, digital policies, and workforce training have bolstered this development.
Hunter noted that the true advantage lies in the Fijian workforce, whose blend of professionalism and empathy is highly valued by international clients. Josefa Wivou, Executive Director of Outsource Fiji, also highlighted that the Sydney event builds upon earlier showcases, reinforcing Fiji’s reputation as a trustworthy nearshore partner characterized by a people-oriented approach.
The event will not only facilitate networking among industry leaders but will also showcase Fiji as a central player in customer experience, IT, finance, and back-office services. This platform aligns with previous efforts, such as the Contact Centre Symposium 2025, where Fiji attracted considerable attention from Australian businesses keen on outsourcing partnerships. The government’s proactive stance has emphasized the need for a “BPO village” within the Kalabu Tax Free Zone, aiming to enhance digital connectivity and create an appealing environment for international firms.
The optimistic outlook for Fiji’s outsourcing sector is further fueled by the potential for substantial job creation, particularly among the youth and women, who make up a significant portion of the workforce. With a current labor force in the BPO sector of around 8,000, initiatives aim to significantly increase this number, targeting the creation of 25,000 jobs over the next five to ten years.
As Fiji endeavors to expand its footprint in the outsourcing domain, continued innovation and strategic partnerships remain key to ensuring sustained economic growth and diversification. The upcoming BPO Exchange presents a promising opportunity for Fiji to showcase its strengths and commitment to building a resilient and inclusive outsourcing industry, thereby fostering economic empowerment and job creation.
