Fiji will proudly participate in the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships set to take place in Wuxi, China, with athletes Lolohea Naitasi and Nipesh Prakash representing the nation under the guidance of experienced coach Neelu Nand.

Naitasi is set to compete in the female -54kg category, showcasing her determination and passion for the sport. Eager to face off against the world’s best, she expressed her journey as a testament to hard work. “It takes patience and sacrifice to be where you are today. No matter the challenges, one must never give up and keep thriving,” she stated.

Meanwhile, Prakash, representing the men’s category, has made headlines recently by winning a Gold medal at the TUNZ Open in New Zealand. As he pursues a master’s degree in professional accounting at Victoria University of Wellington, he remains committed to making his Fijian heritage proud on international platforms. “I’m driven by the challenge to keep improving and represent my country with pride. Every training session is a chance to grow stronger,” he said.

Leading the team is head coach Chand, who brings an impressive 34 years of experience in the sport. He emphasizes that these competitions are not only about winning but also about mastering skills and testing personal limits. “The most rewarding thing about being a coach is seeing my athletes grow in skill, confidence, and character. Watching them overcome challenges, believe in themselves, and achieve their goals on and off the mat makes every effort worthwhile,” he noted.

The participation of Naitasi and Prakash in this championship indicates a significant milestone in Fiji’s return to the global taekwondo stage, symbolizing the nation’s increasing commitment to excellence and unity through sports. The Fiji Taekwondo Association views this event as a pivotal opportunity for athletes to enhance their skills and gain invaluable international experience.

Both athletes’ journeys of perseverance and ambition demonstrate not only their personal growth but also foster hope for future generations of Taekwondo practitioners from Fiji, inspiring many to aspire for excellence and recognition on international platforms. As they prepare for this upcoming challenge, the excitement surrounding Fiji’s involvement in taekwondo continues to grow, paving the way for possible legacy in the sport.
