Fiji is making strides in shaping its foreign policy as a foundational element for national development. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka highlighted that the 2024 Foreign Policy White Paper is closely aligned with the country’s national development plan, aiming to bolster Fiji’s sovereignty, security, and prosperity through international collaboration.
During a recent address, Rabuka emphasized the significance of fostering a people-centered approach in diplomacy. He noted that the upcoming national diaspora policy, being formulated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will further enhance this commitment to a foreign policy focused on the well-being of Fijians both at home and abroad. The Prime Minister aims to ensure that Fiji’s diplomatic efforts yield tangible benefits, while also maintaining the nation’s esteemed global voice.
Opposition MP Faiyaz Koya responded positively to Rabuka’s statements, praising Australia’s ongoing support for the Fijian Parliament and acknowledging the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
The Foreign Policy White Paper lays the groundwork for a coherent and proactive international strategy that addresses both local and global challenges, affirming Fiji’s dedication to promoting regional peace and stability. With a clear framework in place, Fiji is positioning itself to strengthen its connections and assert its influence on the global stage, fostering a hopeful outlook for the nation’s future in the international community.
