Fiji is making significant strides to enhance its health system with the introduction of the Primary Health Care Roadmap and Essential Service Package Workshop. This initiative, which convened leaders from various departments within the Ministry of Health, aims to translate policy into tangible actions that provide integrated, high-quality healthcare to every community across the nation.
During the workshop, Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Luisa Cikamatana articulated an ambitious vision for Primary Health Care, emphasizing its vital role as the cornerstone for achieving universal and equitable health access. She and other officials underscored the pressing necessity to move from planning to implementation, reminding participants that “a roadmap without action is just a map.”
The workshop culminated in the finalization of a practical Primary Health Care Roadmap and the definition of a core Essential Service Package. This sets the groundwork for collaborative initiatives across various government departments, reinforcing the commitment to making robust primary healthcare a fundamental right for all citizens of Fiji.
This proactive approach reflects a hopeful outlook towards establishing a more inclusive and accessible health system, ensuring that every Fijian can benefit from essential health services.
