Fiji will proudly send two talented athletes, Lolohea Naitasi and Nipesh Prakash, to represent the nation at the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships in Wuxi, China, guided by seasoned coach Neelu Nand. This event underscores Fiji’s resurgence on the global sports stage, emphasizing the country’s dedication to excellence and unity through Taekwondo.
Coach Nand, a stalwart in Fijian Taekwondo with over three decades of experience, expressed that the preparation for the championship has been rigorous and rewarding. He highlighted, “The most rewarding part of coaching is seeing athletes grow in confidence and character. Taekwondo isn’t just about medals; it’s about building strength and spirit that lasts a lifetime.”
As emerging stars in this sport, Naitasi and Prakash both bring unique journeys to the table. Naitasi, who hails from Daku, Nakelo, began her Taekwondo training in 2022 and credits her growth to her family and faith, stating, “When challenges arise, I go back to God for peace and strength. My parents’ support motivates me to never give up.” Prakash, originally from Labasa and currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Professional Accounting in New Zealand, is similarly driven. He noted, “Every training session is a chance to grow stronger. I’m proud to carry the Fijian flag and represent my country with honour.”
The athletes departed Fiji on October 21 and will engage in joint training sessions in Wuxi with counterparts from New Zealand and the Cook Islands, a collaboration that Coach Nand describes as a significant display of Pacific unity. He emphasized the importance of community support and thanked all who have backed the team, reinforcing the Fiji Taekwondo Association’s commitment to nurturing talent from grassroots to elite levels.
Competing from October 24 to 31, the team aims to showcase their skills and further establish Fiji’s reputation in international Taekwondo. The national team’s journey reflects a broader narrative of progress and unity, encouraging Fijians to rally behind their athletes as they take on the world stage, embodying the hope and determination that define the spirit of Fiji.
