Fiji is experiencing an increase in the number of students participating in national external examinations this year, as revealed by the Ministry of Education. During a National External Examination Dedication Service held at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva, it was announced that a total of 41,140 students will be taking part in the assessments, representing a rise from 40,445 candidates in 2024.
The major examinations included are the Year 8, Year 12, and Year 13 certificate examinations. Specifically, 19,007 students will participate in the Fiji Year 8 Certificate Examination at 717 centers, which is an increase from 18,973 students last year, where the pass rate stood at 68%. Meanwhile, 13,113 students are set to take the Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination across 177 centers, up from 12,868 in the previous year, with a pass rate of 76%. Finally, 9,020 students will attempt the Fiji Year 13 Certificate Examination at 174 centers, marking an increase from 8,604 candidates in 2024, and boasting a high pass rate of 89%.
The dedication service aimed to inspire and support the students ahead of their exams, which are scheduled to take place in October and November. Students, along with teachers, parents, and faith leaders, gathered to share in prayers that focused on resilience, strength, and focus during this critical time. Education officials emphasized the importance of mental and physical well-being, encouraging students to take care of themselves as they prepare for what is often a challenging period.
This increase in participation not only reflects the dedication of students but also highlights the commitment of the educational community in Fiji to nurture and support the next generation. As students embark on this pivotal journey of assessments, the collective encouragement from families, faith leaders, and educators may amplify their confidence, guiding them toward future successes.
