Fiji is witnessing a notable rise in student participation in national external examinations this year, according to the Ministry of Education. At a recent National External Examination Dedication Service held at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva, officials announced that a total of 41,140 students are set to take part in these assessments, an increase from the 40,445 candidates in 2024.
The significant examinations encompass the Year 8, Year 12, and Year 13 certificate examinations. Of these, 19,007 students will sit for the Fiji Year 8 Certificate Examination across 717 testing centers, up from 18,973 last year, with a pass rate of 68%. Meanwhile, 13,113 students are preparing for the Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination at 177 centers, an increase from 12,868 in the previous year, where the pass rate was 76%. Additionally, 9,020 students will participate in the Fiji Year 13 Certificate Examination at 174 centers, rising from 8,604 candidates last year, and achieving an impressive pass rate of 89%.
The dedication service was designed to motivate and uplift students ahead of their examinations, which are scheduled for October and November. Students, supported by teachers, parents, and local faith leaders, gathered to engage in prayers emphasizing resilience, strength, and focus during this crucial time. Education officials stressed the importance of mental and physical health, urging students to prioritize self-care while preparing for this often challenging period.
This increase in participant numbers not only underscores the dedication of students but also highlights the educational community’s commitment in Fiji to nurture and support the emerging generation. As these students embark on their significant examination journeys, the collective encouragement from families, faith leaders, and educators may enhance their confidence and pave the way for future achievements.
