Fiji Sees Public Sector Revamp Through India’s ITEC Training

Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka, recently highlighted the significant impact of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme, which has benefitted over 800 Fijians. During the ITEC Day celebrations, Gavoka emphasized that the training facilitated under this program has played a vital role in enhancing skills across various sectors including civil service, defense, health, education, and technology.

Gavoka noted that participants returning from training in India bring with them a renewed dedication to public service, which helps modernize systems, strengthen leadership in ministries, and improve overall service delivery to the population. He stated, “It has strengthened governance, advanced science and technology, and connected people across continents. Through training in India’s leading institutions, the programme builds human capacity that fuels national growth.”

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed gratitude towards India for its role as a bilateral partner, stating that such initiatives foster connections between institutions and support shared goals of progress and innovation. He expressed eagerness to further develop opportunities for knowledge sharing and partnership with India, reinforcing the bonds that have been established over the years.

Gavoka’s sentiments echo recent discussions on collaborative efforts between Fiji and India aimed at boosting capacity building and skill development, emphasized by Indian High Commissioner Suneet Mehta. These exchanges reflect a broader commitment to enhancing professional and technical skills among Fijians through educational initiatives that lead to significant contributions across various sectors, resulting in tangible advancements for the nation.

As this relationship evolves, it paints a hopeful picture for the future of Fijian development, underscoring the importance of continued cooperation that promises to unlock new opportunities for growth and prosperity in Fiji and beyond.
