The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) is urging citizens to engage in public consultations regarding proposed changes to the electricity tariff rate structure. Set to occur between January 6 and January 15, 2024, these consultations serve as a platform to solicit diverse opinions about the adjustments suggested by Energy Fiji Limited (EFL).
FCCC is calling on a broad spectrum of stakeholders to take part, including household consumers, community groups, businesses, industries, government entities, political organizations, social groups, and youth representatives. The Commission emphasizes the importance of gathering varied perspectives in shaping the future of electricity pricing in Fiji.
In addition to in-person meetings, citizens are encouraged to share their thoughts through written submissions and an online survey available throughout the consultation period. To facilitate better understanding of the potential impacts of these changes, FCCC has released a non-confidential version of EFL’s tariff proposal on its website. Furthermore, they have launched an Electricity Bill Comparison Calculator, a tool that allows consumers to estimate how the new rate structure could affect their electricity bills.
FCCC highlights the significance of public participation in these consultations and promises to keep the community informed regarding venue confirmations and any schedule modifications through their official communication channels. The Commission hopes that all Fijians will take this opportunity to express their views, fostering a comprehensive dialogue about electricity pricing that affects the entire community. This collaborative effort signals a positive step toward inclusive decision-making in matters of public interest.
