All schools in Fiji will remain closed tomorrow as a precautionary step in response to severe rainfall and significant flooding throughout the country. Aseri Radrodro, the Minister for Education, announced the closure following discussions with the National Disaster Risk Management Office, underscoring the commitment to protecting students and the broader school communities amid the challenging weather conditions.

District Education Offices have been evaluating the flooding’s impact, and this decision to suspend classes is aimed at ensuring children’s safety. School administrators and teachers are urged to stay in communication with their Management Committees and District Education Offices for continuous updates on the situation. Additionally, they are advised to secure their school facilities in anticipation of adverse weather.

Parents and guardians are urged to keep their children at home, refrain from unnecessary travel, and avoid flooded areas, including roads, creeks, and rivers. Activities such as swimming in flood-affected zones are strongly discouraged due to safety concerns.

The Ministry of Education is closely monitoring the evolving circumstances and will inform the public about the reopening of schools as conditions improve. The Minister reaffirmed that the safety and well-being of children and school communities are the Ministry’s utmost priorities. This proactive approach aims to mitigate risks and ensure a safer environment for all.
