The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) is placing a significant emphasis on women’s rugby as it develops its new strategic plan for the upcoming years. During the recent FRU General Assembly in Nadi, Chief Executive Officer Koli Sewabu announced that a dedicated ‘Women in Rugby Strategy’ will be crafted in the coming weeks and will be incorporated within the broader FRU strategic framework.

The assembly provided a platform for member unions to evaluate their progress during the 2025 season while strategizing for 2026 and beyond. Sewabu highlighted critical focus areas including participation pathways, training and education, governance, administration, and the specific development of women’s rugby.

Reflecting on the achievements and challenges of 2025, particularly concerning the domestic fund, Sewabu expressed the importance of this meeting in shaping Fiji Rugby’s direction. He indicated that a proposed calendar of activities for 2026 has been developed, following the alignment with high-performance programs, suggesting confidence in the upcoming plans.

The assembly served as a final consultative phase, gathering input from member unions on the new strategic plan. Key discussions also revolved around the governance of provincial unions, competition structures, and the management of rugby domestically.

Sewabu expressed gratitude to member unions for their ongoing support, emphasizing the FRU’s commitment to strengthening its foundations and the promising growth of women’s rugby in the future. This commitment reflects a broader movement toward inclusivity and development within the sport, which bodes well for rugby in Fiji.
