The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) is embarking on a comprehensive overhaul across its entire organization, with a clear objective of elevating its operations to align with Tier One standards. This significant move highlights the FRU’s commitment to modernizing both on-field and off-field strategies in order to compete more effectively in the international rugby arena.

To achieve this ambitious goal, the FRU is actively seeking individuals with the necessary expertise to bolster its capabilities. A new strategic plan has been developed that aligns with the standards set by World Rugby and Tier One nations, as well as SANZAAR, ensuring that the organization is well-prepared for upcoming competitions.

FRU chief executive Koli Sewabu emphasized the importance of this strategic alignment, stating, “That plan is aligned with World Rugby, Tier One nations, SANZAAR, aligned with the teams that we are going to compete against in the next couple of months. There is a lot of work to be done for that; it’s also about getting the right people on board.” He indicated that announcements regarding new appointments are forthcoming, aimed at enhancing the organization’s overall skill set.

John Sanday, FRU Board chairman, shared that a new team of executives will be introduced next week, aimed at ensuring a fresh and effective approach as the organization prepares for what he called “the biggest year in rugby history next year and in the next 10 years.” He highlighted the critical nature of this transition, adding, “It is important to get this right from the process, procedural and legitimacy point of view.”

In addition to these strategic movements, Sanday revealed that the recruitment process for a new chief financial officer has been finalized, along with the appointment of an acting CEO, with details on these roles to be disclosed soon. The proactive measures and transparent communication from the FRU signal a hopeful direction for Fiji Rugby, emphasizing a commitment to excellence and preparedness for the challenges ahead.
